Data Tinker Privacy Policy
Last updated: 6 October 2026 · Leer en español
Data Tinker is a browser extension for people who build and test web forms. It generates valid test data (identifiers, bank accounts, test card numbers, profiles, boundary values) in a side panel and fills form fields with it, directly in the browser.
Summary
Data Tinker does not collect, transmit or sell any data to external servers. All test data is generated in your browser, and everything the extension stores stays there.
What is stored, and where
-
What you create: rules, templates and projects, with the sites each
project belongs to. Stored locally through the browser's extension storage
(
storage.local). They never leave your machine unless you export them or back them up to a file yourself. - Values captured from a page: only when you press "Capture this page's values", the form's current values are saved into a template, so you can paste them into another form. Password fields are never captured.
- The last fill: the address and title of the page you last filled and what was put into each field, so that "Repeat with the same data" works after closing the panel. Each fill replaces the previous one.
- The result of a boundary-value test, kept only until the panel shows it, and discarded after two minutes if it never does.
- Preferences (country, language, the field icon and the sites it appears on, keyboard shortcuts, the last generator you used): also local.
What it reads from a page
Data Tinker reads a page's form fields — their labels, names, types and options — to decide what to put in each one. It does so when you ask it to fill, detect, capture or test the limits of a form, and when you open an address for which you set a template to fill on load. The small icon next to the focused field only notices which field has the focus. None of this is stored, apart from what is listed above, or sent anywhere.
What we do not do
- We run no servers of our own and send no data to third parties.
- We use no analytics, advertising or tracking of any kind.
- We neither sell nor share information with anyone.
- The extension makes no network requests.
Why it asks for access to all sites
Data Tinker needs broad host permission (<all_urls>) because it fills
forms on whichever site you are testing — your own development, staging or production
addresses — and there is no way to know them in advance. That access is used exclusively to
fill and inspect the forms you point it at, in your own browser, and to show the field icon,
which you can turn off or limit to some sites from the extension's settings. You can also
withdraw its access to sites from the browser's extension settings; filling from the
right-click menu and the keyboard shortcut keeps working on the tab where you use them.
Changes to this policy
